INDICATIONS:
- Rivalin is indicated for the prevention of venous thromboembolic events (VTE)
in adult patients undergoing elective hip or knee replacement surgery (total hip or knee arthroplasty). - Treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), and prevention of recurrent DVT and PE in adults.
- Prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in adult patients with atrial fibrillation.
AVANTAGES:
- It is a newly marketed oral anticoagulant that received the 2008 Belgian Prix Galien for the most innovative drug;
- Compared to low-molecular-weight heparins, it offers superior antithrombotic efficacy and eliminates the need for subcutaneous injections or the risk of thrombocytopenia;
- Compared to coumarins, it offers a better safety profile, requires no dose titration or adjustment, and does not necessitate thrombin time monitoring;
- It has high absolute bioavailability (80–100%) at a 10 mg dose;
- The product is rapidly absorbed, with peak concentrations (Cmax) reached 2–4 hours after tablet intake;
- It is well-tolerated compared to other anticoagulants;
