INDICATIONS:
- MEROMEX belongs to a group of antibiotics called carbapenems. It works by killing bacteria that can cause serious infections.
- MEROMEX is used to treat the following infections in adults and children aged 3 months or older:
- Lung infections (pneumonia),
- Lung and bronchial infections in patients with cystic fibrosis,
- Complicated urinary tract infections,
- Complicated abdominal infections,
- Infections that may occur during or after childbirth,
- Complicated skin and soft tissue infections,
- Acute bacterial infections of the brain (meningitis).
DOSAGE:
- The dose depends on the type and location of the infection in your body, as well as its severity. Your doctor will decide the dose you need. For adults, the dose is usually between 500 mg (milligrams) and 2 g (grams). You will generally receive a dose every 8 hours. However, you may receive a dose less frequently if you have kidney problems.
- The dose for children over 3 months and under 12 years of age is determined based on the child’s age and weight. The usual dose ranges from 10 mg to 40 mg of MEROMEX (powder for solution for injection or infusion) per kilogram (kg) of the child’s body weight. A dose is generally administered every 8 hours. Children weighing more than 50 kg will receive the same dose as an adult.
