INDICATIONS:
- Acute coronary syndromes (stable angina, myocardial infarction with or without ST-segment elevation)
- Coronary angioplasty
- Prevention of cardiovascular events in high-risk patients
DOSAGE:
- Clopidogrel loading dose: 300–600 mg/day
- Aspirin loading dose: 75–325 mg/day
- Maintenance dose: 75 mg/day
- Duration of treatment: optional, up to 12 months after an acute coronary syndrome in combination with acetylsalicylic acid
MECHANISM OF ACTION:
- Clopidogrel blocks the action of ADP on blood platelets, thus preventing their aggregation.
- Aspirin acts primarily by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme, which is involved in the production of prostaglandins and thromboxane A2.
