INDICATIONS:
Ceftazidime is an antibiotic indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections, primarily those caused by the bacterium *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*. This microorganism causes meningitis as well as eye, respiratory, urinary, and bloodstream infections (septicemia).
CEFTAMEX is indicated for the treatment of the following infections in adults, children, and infants, including newborns (from birth):
- Nosocomial pneumonia
- Bronchopulmonary infections in cystic fibrosis
- Bacterial meningitis
- Chronic suppurative otitis media
- Malignant otitis externa
- Complicated urinary tract infections
- Complicated skin and soft-tissue infections
- Complicated intra-abdominal infections
- Bone and joint infections
- Peritonitis associated with peritoneal dialysis in patients undergoing CAPD.
DOSAGE:
- For adults, it is 3 g/day, 1 g every 8 hours.
- For children and infants, it is 100–150 mg/kg per day.
- For newborns, it ranges from 25 to 50 mg/kg per day.
